Central Térmica do Norte

A proposed gas-to-power station on the northern coast. The first tranche, approximately 250 MW, is intended for a long-term power purchase agreement with the national utility, placing firm capacity into a northern grid that is short of it. Further tranches are released only against contracted demand.

Where this sits

Central Térmica do Norte is one of five revenue centres within Nacala Next. Each is structured, financed and approved separately, and each is taken forward with its own operating partner. They share one gas supply, one coastal delivery chain and common port and power infrastructure.

The station is sized to be built in stages rather than at once. The first tranche is scoped for the public system; the tranches after it are released as further firm demand is contracted, so that generation is never built ahead of the load that pays for it.

Status

Concept stage. Rights, gas allocation, land, terminal access, offtake, partners, approvals and financing all remain to be secured. No construction has begun and no final investment decision has been taken.
